Last week I drove an Air – the $US169,000 ($229,000), 1111-horsepower (817 Kw) Dream Edition Performance version – from Palo Alto to Los Angeles.

Starting at a US$77,700 price, the Lucid Air not only beats the best battery range that Tesla can muster by literally a hundred miles on a charge - a 520-mile EPA estimate next to 412 miles for the Model S LR - but its Dream Edition Performance version has 1,111 HP (828 kW) motors while the Tesla Model S Plaid returns 1,020 HP (760 kW) of might.
